Does anyone replace batteries for just time? Meaning, battery working OK but 2 years old. Do they have a time life even if cared for? I've got slight bulging in two but they perform fine.

To my knowledge, the key parameters you want to look at are:

1) The number of charge/discharge cycles you have gone through. Keep a log.

2) The internal resistance numbers you get from the battery. Use a set of adapter cables and a battery meter that will measure IR.

3) Evidence of puffing of the cells (which is more difficult to discern with the hard shell encased batteries we use).

The generally accepted life cycle for hobby grade lipo’s is roughly two years-when they are used correctly and consistently from day one. When not used correctly the life cycle is unpredictable and can be much, much less. Some batteries will last longer than two years but those are exceptions from the norm. As yours are two years old and just now starting to show visible external degradation you’ve done well. Individual cell states would tell you more about their condition.
