Well finally after a week of it just sitting at my sister's house, waiting for me to get my 4x4 ready for our 5 week holiday to the centre of Australia.
I was finally able to open the box last night and take a look.
1) it is light... When I opened it up and first took it out it feels light.... Too light?? Almost cheap nasty light. It didn't have the sense of quality it premium price.
2) it feels oh so nice. The finish off the Orange plastic feels smooth and silky but slightly textured.
3) Looking into the battery compartment it is empty. Ok so what I mean is in the H480 there was stuff in there. Off to the sides and bottom there were circuit boards and the like.
The H520 bare.
3a) the charger has the newer balance leads. Will have to wait for an after market adapter to be produced.
4) The current rear facing status light is no longer. Therefore there is no longer a board in the bottom.
5) Speaking of the bottom. There is a Realsense connection cable. I will plug one in to it and see what happens.
6) binding is now via inverting the drone for a number of seconds.
7) The ST16S Is all new redesigned.
The Front face is pretty much the same. But the rear and top and bottom are all redesigned.
7a) the hand grips are thinner (not so high)
7b) full sized USB on top for access to tethered WiFi dongles.
7c) fan now exits out the top through a grill. It looks like it could be using a new barrel type fan (won't know until it is opened)
7d) the battery is a slide out module (as someone who modded their original H480 charger and made my own charging leads for the H batteries I liked the fact that it had the EC2 connector so I could 1C charge it at a reasonable speed. Now however it is not quite as easy. I Will have to see what options can be retro fitted.) There is a very nice push button release to allow you to pull the battery down and out.
7d) a new handle. It is now thicker and stronger and feels nice you could quite easily prop the controller up onto this and it would be very stable.
7e) the sunshade looks to be the same, maybe slightly different in the pins.
7f) a 4 point neck strap is supplied and is of the newer thicker Style as opposed to the original straps which were quite thin.
7g) both type of 5.8GHz antenna are included. The mushroom omni directional and the flat directional.
8) The box/foam. It is a new type of foam. Similar to the original H480. Not the second batch and current ones with the cheap foam.
8a) IT FITS! So it fits into the $30 Chinese back packs from eBay. It should also fit into the current H Pro bag and the original hard cases (for those few of us that actually were able to get one when first release before being discontinued.
8b) it has provision for a wizard. (Oh well ... Let's see what happens)
8c) you still have to unpack the full list of extras (Charger, Power Adapter and Cord and two batteries) it is a pain doing this each time.
8d) it will therefore still be allowed as a Carry-On item and not have to be checked in.
8e) the propeller box is nice. 6 props in the front and then the extra 4 behind in a seperate flap.
8f) the main box has a cutout for the propeller box. This I guess saves some space.
9) The E90 Camera . This thing is Nice.
It looks the goods.
The gimbal redesign works. It just looks polished.
9a) 91' fov, 23mm equivalent, f2.8, 40.5mm lens size for ND and other add-on's.
9b) a16Gb Panasonic micro SDCard Class 10 U3.
9c) There is a cover over the card slot and micro USB.
9d) the actual body of the camera is strong and sturdy. There is some weight to it. In fact it weighs 339g I will add the weight of the CGO3 once I weigh it.
9e) the angle that the camera can go to.... Both down up and rotate both sides. It didn't bind up at full movement. Instead it has nice solid feeling bump stops. I need to see at what angles you can get the controller to tilt it. But if it can get closer to that upward angle it will allow my bridge inspecting customers the ability to use it effectively.
9f) The mounting plate is now one piece. As opposed to the cover piece on the current CGO3+
9g) the rubber dampners are thicker and gel filled. From squeezing them it is like they have gel in them as they baloon out when compressed.
9h) The slip ring wires are now covered by a protective rubber sleeve. Inside it looks the same design as we perviously had with the 6 wires and retaining plastic bridge.
So that's it for now.
I drove for 12 hours 900km (Out of our 7000km trip) and broke 4 wheel studs today. So haven't had time to fly it yet.
Hopefully things get a bit smoother.
More to come.
