Grey residue on end of battery

Hi. I've noticed a grey powder residue on the underside of the battery following flights on the Typhoon H. Had anyone else noticed the same?
Thanks
J

Are you launching and landing from dusty surfaces? The bottom of the battery is subjected to dust kicked up by the propellers.

Not greasy at all but yes as the weather is dry there is probably more dust than normal. I'm not intentionally taking off in dust but that makes sense. Thank you

Not a particularly hi-tech solution this, but when I'm taking off, particularly if I think there may be a bit of dust kicked up, I use a large shopping bag flattened onto the ground surface. I always have shopping bags in the boot (trunk) of my car for when I go to the shops so I always have something to hand to take off from.

Yep, as someone who has flown without landing pads for 5 years, and recently got one, I can say they are very very helpful, and I wish I'd got one sooner...
  • Dust / debris prevention
  • Take off from fields with long grass.
  • People avoid landing area if there is a big H sitting there.
  • Easy to see from on high - contrasts well with ground etc
  • Great place to put your props and batteries immediately before they go on the craft - no more leaving stuff on the ground...
Don't bother with any £90 versions you see online. I got the £9 one from gearbest and it is totally fine :)

Downsides:
  • Doesn't fit in the H case, or those side pockets, but can be secured to the top handle
  • Will occasionally twat you in the face as you open it.
  • If there are a lot of dog walkers where you fly, it may get wee'd on by passing dogs.

Yep. I've had that on a number of occasions. When flying I always have a carrier bag (this is apart from the large shopping bag I mentioned earlier) which I carry things that aren't in the flight case...like reading glasses, an extra battery that won't fit in the case, mobile 'phone, etc. Now that's been weed on on more than one occasion. Once, after doing a commercial flight I'd taken my high-vis off and put it down next to the bag...then a dog came along and crapped on it:mad:

The best reason for using a landing pad is to keep dust and debris out of the gimbal and off the cameral lens. It takes very little to foul a gimbal, but takes a lot of effort or $ to clean them out. Having dust specs on a lens that was clean before take off ruins collected imagery for the entire flight.
