So I did the 11/16/2016 firmware upgrade and now my motors will only fire up if the drone is in Smart mode. Previously it fire up if it was in Angle mode also.

Does the Typhoon indicate that you have GPS fix when you are trying to arm/start the motors?
Try turning OFF GPS and see if it will let you start in angle mode then. I have never had that issue with mine. Keep us posted, does not sound right.

Go to settings.
Enable advanced mode.
Return to the main screen.
Tap: channel settings.
Hold down the start/stop button.
Pay attention to what the indicator scale at the bottom reads and reply back to this post.
