Always place a sd card in your ST10 under the battery. That is the only way the telemetry data will be recorded. You must have this card installed for warranty service.

You can use any card up to 16GB. Format it using FAT32.

It's a comma delimited file, .csv which can be opened with Office or Open Office. There are two columns labeled Latitude and Longitude. The last entry in those columns are the final signal received from the Q500. You can copy and past those numbers into Google Maps to find the location.
Give it a try and see if it works for you.

Hi wouldn't formatting the sd card in ntsf be better than fat32 seeing that it is recording mostly data files and not video audio or photo files?

The ST10 can only read Fat32 formatting.
