SD card in ST16

Other than using the SD card slot in the ST16 for firmware updates, is there any other compelling reason to keep an SD card inserted into the ST16?

I was doing so, mostly to have a backup in case I forgot to put one in the camera, but now I've been told that might cause control issues with the ST16. So I guess the short answer is no, with a maybe that it's a good idea NOT to keep a card in there unless you're using it. Later.

OK, I hear ya. But I have never been told it can cause issues! Who told you that? Do they have any evidence?

Short answer: No.

is the st16 sd card slot only use for firmware updates , and to get flight logs off. is there another way to get flight logs of st16

Link the -16 to a computer using a USB to micro USB cable.
