Overload protection at Q500 battery. All three cells will be observed. If one of them has over-voltage then the ground wire of the balancer cable will be cut and the charger stops charging. The main supply will be untouched.

Was the camera significantly updated during it's life, or just slight modifications, if at all?

No modifications. These are three variations I have seen on at least two cameras each. The "at least two" is my homemade "criteria" for deciding if it is a factory variation or a user modification.

Surprise: I found one MCU unit from H480 that has a SD card slot mounted. Indoor test was not successful. The SD card remains empty (used a fresh formatted with FAT32). File system remains untouched. @Pöllö: If you want, I can send you this part. Maybe the SD-card can be adressed somehow...
