first flight of my typhoon H, take off fine and carried out some Ariel footage which was fine but coming into land approximately 10 to 15 ft off the ground and the drone started drifting around in approximately 10ft circle, I wasn't touching the sticks? Does this mean it needs calibration?
Many thanks in advance, just joined :-)

Were you in SMART MODE? If you were there is an approximately 10+ buffer zone around you. Fly in ANGLE MODE.

Hi AH-1G

Were you in SMART MODE? If you were there is an approximately 10+ buffer zone around you. Fly in ANGLE MODE.

Thanks for replying. I was in angle mode at the time, any more thoughts please?

Welcome Paul!

By asking if your H needs calibration, are you saying you did not calibrate anything before your first flight?

If you did not go through the calibrations, that is the first recommendation.

Second, at altitudes less than 20 feet, or closer to 10ft or less, pilots have posted to expect the craft to drift a bit. My two hulls exhibit similar behavior. This is likely due to ground effects from the prop wash.

A test for you: when you experience this drift, gain altitude to something like 30 or 40 feet. Does the drifting subside?

Last but not least, feel free to use the search feature of this site (keywords like drift, oscillating, ground effect) might give you more insights via previous discussions.

Happy flying!

Paul...
What Jeff said...also may suggest to let the H sit on the ground for 15 minutes before the first take off after calibration.
Turn on controller, , then the H,.face the H to the north do not start the H, let sit.
After that put in a fresh battery and take off to about 20 feet and see how she flys. should be almost rock steady.
Post your results back !

Just to remove any possible confusion...

“Turn on the H; don’t start the motors,” then let sit for those suggested 13-15 minutes. (Purpose is to allow the GPS almanac to download completely.)
