It looks like I have the same problem as you have using Windows. The flash process stops before finished. It starts flashing which is indicated by the blue LED but never comes to its end. I have tried it with commandline using only the Espressif esptool just to exclude my GUI for this tool but also esptool itself has the problem.
Looking at their troubleshooting page they simply say:
I have added the selection for baud rate and tried it with 57600 baud but also failed. I don't know if it needs it slower. At LINUX Mint it runs with 115200 without problems.
Still searching for a solution for Windows. Maybe we to fall back to an older version of the esptool. But in this case the GUI will not work because it uses now the new commands of the esptool.

If flashing fails with random errors part way through, retry with a lower baud rate.
Power stability problems may also cause this (see Insufficient Power.)"
