HELLO TYPHOON H FLYERS

CAN YOU TELL ME ON MY ST 16 CONTROLLER
HOW ACCURATE DO YOU THINK THE ALTIMETER IS.
I AM ALWAYS A LITTLE CONCERNED .
IF I AM FLYING OVER AN OBJECT I USUALLY SET
IT 20 FT HIGHER THAN THE OBJECT IS.
BUT YET IT LOOKS REALLY CLOSE.
THANKS
KEITH KUHN

I would say giving a 20 foot cushion is a good precaution... remember that the OEM lens on our aerial rigs is a wide angle view, and you need to take that into consideration. When you say it looks really close, are you talking about the view from the camera, or your perception when viewing the H in the sky?

HERE IS AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT I MEAN BY CLOSE,
I GUESS I AM REFERRING TO HOW IT LOOKS ON MY SCREEN ON THE CONTROLLER.START THE VIDEO AT THE 2 MINUTE MARK.
THANKS KEITH

PLUS I HAVE THE CAMERA TILTED DOWN A BIT, SO IT EVEN LOOKS CLOSER.

I would not assume a lot of accuracy with the ST-16 displayed altitude. If it was me there would be a bit more buffer for RTH heights.

The one scene next to the trestle shooting down the tracks would be a great angle for picking up the front of a train coming into view.

That seems to be about 10-20 feet above the top... if I were shooting that, I'd add an additional 5 - 10 feet... shooting the rock faces I am drawn to, understand not wanting to run into immovable objects... ;)

It must be said that the altimeter on the TH isn't all that accurate. It's based on a barometer which, frankly, isn't all that good and does tend to drift as the aircraft warms up during a flight. Therefore, it would be prudent for a pilot not to put too much faith in the reported height displayed on the controller. To set CCC waypoints and RTH heights with a bit more generosity to avoid incidents occurring.

HELLO AGAIN
I DO NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT ALTITUDE
NOW. I HAD MY FIRST FLYAWAY TODAY.
WOW WHAT A BUMMER. ABOUT 8 FT OFF THE GROUND
I NOTICED IT WAS VEERING TO LEFT RATHER QUICKLY
SO I TRIED CLIMBING TO AVOID HITTING ANYTHING
IT CLIMBED AND CONTINUED GOING LEFT OFF INTO THE
WILD BLUE YONDER. IT IS GONE. WARRANTY IS IN EFFECT. CALLED YUNEEC THIS ALL TOOK
PLACE 3 HRS AGO. LOTS TO DO NOW.
TELEMETRY FILES AND MORE. SOME OF YOU KNOW THE ROUTINE.
WHAT A BUMMER, MY FIRST FLYAWAY.
KEITH KUHN

BTW, I think the "SHAKY" video is what TH pilots usually call "Jello" video.

HI THERE
GREAT DAY HERE , I HAD MY FIRST FLY AWAY TODAY.
MY DRONE IS GONE - - YEP GONE - OHH WELL.
I CONTACTED YUNEEC, IT IS UNDER WARRANTY
BUT I HAVE A FEELING THEY MAY NOT HELP ME.
JUST MY GUT FEELING. IF THEY DO
GIVE ME A ANOTHER DRONE I DO NOT THINK
THEY WILL GIVE ME A CAMERA OR A BATTERY.
CRAP HAPPENS.

I'm deeply sorry for your loss, Keith. I'm not very good at reading telemetry. I can do it but there are far better people than I on this forum. I know my place. Maybe one of those will chip in with a reading?

THINGS HAPPEN
WE WILL SEE WHAT YUNEEC HAS TO SAY.
IT IS UNDER WARRANTY. I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED.

Did you by chance have contact information attached to the h?
It’s possible it may have had a peaceful landing once the battery depleted itself. It wouldn’t hurt to look depending on where you were flying

I personally get to know my drone camera capabilities by flying at a distance above and beside anti object to understand the aspect ratio of the camera to object. The lens size and FOV are big factors. I use a laser pointer that tells me distance from location to where the beam comes in contact with object. I bought it a few years ago and it works great. It was for holding to determine my tee of area too where the hole was or bien far I hit the ball from tee. It was a couple hundred dollars. I'm sure there a newer and better products for less now. I use it for determining my height of flight when I'm flying around a building for real estate. It lets me determine distance from obstructions (power lines, other houses etc.).
