Jou can't prevent the risk of your drone going into the water unhappily.
The risk that you won't find it on the bottom is!

You can shoot the most beautiful images and film over a water surface, but what if, for whatever reason, you have the misfortune to see it dive and possibly not find it again???

I'm flying a Yuneec Typhoon H+ and developed a potential system that allows me to find my drone in most cases and save it from loss under water.
On second thought, not only suitable for the Typhoon H but also for various other types of drones.
At the moment, the development is still in a experimental phase. It will be further elaborated in the coming weeks.

I'll keep you posted!

What is it gong to take to get your vehicle airworthy again once it takes a dive?
Depends on the circumstances. Sometimes rinse and dry. Sometimes some level of repair. Sometimes no hope at all.

Saltwater crashes are especially deceptive. Rinse and dry sometimes appears to restore order for a few weeks, months or even years. But EVERYTHING electronic or metal corrodes and begins to fail over time. Right down to the last insignificant screw and the wires inside the insulation.

This is what I use to repel water on my Typhoon H 480. When I first got it I was concerned about rain and coming down in water. It gets reapplied once a year during my yearly safety inspection. So far no water crash but it has helped with the odd times I have been caught in a light rain.

Also a good initiative, as long as it doesn't damage the electronics. The item I'm working on focuses more on finding your drone if it has unfortunately disappeared under the surface of the water. Not healthy, but better to find 'something' again than to lose everything. Thanks for the comment.

It doesn't interfere with with electronics as it is for waterproofing.....a clear protective coating. What you are wanting to do would make these go hand in hand to increasing the odds of reducing water damage.

2 combined factors seem to me to be the best possible solution (not a super remedy)...
1. Protecting the drone components / electronics as much as possible.
2. A simple recovery of the drone from the bottom of the water.

You've seen i'm developing a safetybeacon for flights over water so you can find a drone back on the bottom (depth I expect until 50m maybe more) in case of lost by accident. Of course the electronics and internal parts are NOT water-resistant. May I ask your experiences with any (spray) products to treath the internal that makes it somehow waterproof? A combination of a resquebeacon and such a product would be excelent.

The product I posted earlier is what does work. There are very few if any other reliable products out there. I think you need to go back and look at the product, then go to their site to see what and how it works. I've been using it for 10 years now.

Thank you Murray Martz, I will test it.

For what its worth, I've been using the Getterback system for over ten years. Originally designed as a fishing rod recovery system for fishermen, this is a simple system that deploys a bobber attached to a long kevlar line that activates when it is submerged in water. If the drone sinks, the bright bobber floats up - grab it and lift your drone to the surface.

They used to be less than $20 bucks but once the drone community started buying them, the manufacturer raised the price dramatically and began to advertise it as a "drone" recovery system.

Either way, it is a fairly simple device that will allow you to locate and recover your drone in most cases should it meet a watery death😆

Nice for small drones.

My H Plus is the same size as your H Plus. No?

And while an H Plus is what I would call a (comparatively) small drone in relation to some "industrial" types, it certainly is one of the "bigger" consumer drones - which is about 95% of sales world wide.

As I said, I was just putting forth what was out there already, not sure if you knew about it. I do wish you good fortune in your project.

Completely right. The Getterback is also a good/smaller solution my friend, but was originaly developed for fishergear. I devolped mine not knowing of the existance, Thx for sharing. Whatever, the main purpose is to save watercrashed drones. Pilots can even make them theirselves out of common stuff and a bit of creativity. Lets hope we never need them ;-) Cu and have save flights!

I think your idea is a pretty good one. Only question so far is how will you get it to release?
