Hey All,

I have noticed that the camera with the H curves the edges of the still images it takes, but doesn't curve the edges of the video. As a result, i want to video a scene and then extract a full size 12MP image from that video, rather than screen shot a 'paused' video clip - is this possible?

Any other explanations or suggestions? Thanks.

Vlc player for free or use davinci resolve or Adobe premier
Lots of you tube videos on how to

Not sure why your camera produces curved edges on still images. Mine doesn't. Have you a non-standard lens fitted?

4K video does not give you a 12MP still. You cannot extract a higher resolution than the video is shot in.

The difference in curves you're seeing is likely because there is a small crop when videoing, due to the different aspect ratios involved. Still images go right to the corners of the sensor, where there is most lens distortion, whereas video takes a 'letterbox' shot that misses out those areas.

Whilst the lens in the CGO3+ is relatively rectilinear (especially compared with GoPro style fish-eye lenses), a truly rectilinear lens with that field of view is actually a pretty expensive and specialist bit of kit.

Oh you can use photoshop and other photo editing programs to fix the fisheye.
And if you open it under raw you can edit all photos at once.

Really? Yours doesn't? Mine had a bad hump before I changed to a pixaero lens now it's just a small hump.
If the horizon is in the middle you won't notice it but as the horizon nears the top it gets worse.
I wonder if the us version has a different lens than the eu.

Thanks for all your help...the response from Tuna makea a lot of sense.

I have DaVinci Resolve so will check YouTube and see how to do it.

Thanks all!

I dunno, but I'm not seeing any noticeable distortion in my stills from the H.
On my Phantom 2 Vision Plus, on the other hand, the distortion is VERY noticeable to the point that correction in post is essential.
@R12NDS have you thought about correcting your stills in post? I use a free application called GIMP. The version I'm using is GIMP 2.

I use Photoshop and Lightroom for my post stuff, but never tried fixing the distortion...more time on YouTube! Lol.

Well, with GIMP it's simply a case of adjusting two sliders in the Lens Distort Correction function. Obviously by different amounts depending on the camera lens used to create the picture.

On a side note, to sort out the lens distort from the P2V+ on video footage I use a proggy called ProDrenalin.

Again, I have never felt the need to do any lens distortion corrections to images, either still or video, from my H.

I think it's under filters - lens correction
If you have Adobe bridge open photos thaere and open under camera raw.
I shoot all photos a dng raw.

I have a PixAero 3.77mm lens on one of mine and there is no edge distortion in either JPG or DNG formats. I've noticed the rolling shutter effects experienced with the stock lens when panning video are either significantly reduced or eliminated as well with the PixAero lens. However, depending on the exposure setting selected, there can be a darkening of a still image at the outer edges.
