I have detected that when charging the battery, in this case together with the ST16S, the transformer overheats. Almost burns to the touch. Has it happened to you?

The second problem is that it does not fully charge the battery. It stays at 17.2V instead of 17.4V being brand new.

Share your experience to determine if this is a serious problem. I want to do more tests to see how he behaves.

@arruntus I had the exact problem.
When charging just the drone battery via the standard base unit - no problems, no over heating.
When adding the ST16S via the in-built USB connector on the base unit, my power supply blew and took out the circuit in my house!
I have since bought a new power supply with the same output/connector, and I now only charge the ST16S via a dedicated USB charger. BUT, this charger gets VERY VERY hot, to the point of smelling slightly.
So there is a possible problem with the ST16S battery...

Or lack of power of the official charger and overload the transformer.

It's an interesting point, after the problems I started to charge the transmitter with a 2A mobile phone charger and it has been charged much faster and without problem and with the official charger charging only the battery was no longer hot so much. It could be that.......

I load the St16s with
Anker PowerPort 6 Port 60W USB Power Charger
Up to 2.4A per output port or up to 12A across all ports.
and I have no problem. And it's fast.

I didn't know the product, you can buy 5,6 and 10 ports in the desktop versions. In the wall versions even more possibilities. It's a very interesting option. Thx

The next time I recharge the ST16S I will look at how long it took, to compare with the theoretical 5 hours it takes to charge with the original charger.

I spoke to the dealer who sold me the bird and told me that when he charges the batteries, they normally fit 96% of the charge.

When you charge the batteries you can check these two things and comment on them?
  • Transformer temperature and whether or not you are simultaneously charging the ST16S
  • Final battery charge
To check the battery voltage we can do it in the ST16S

The ST-16 and -16s both use lithium ion batteries. The optimum charge rate for a li-on is 0.8C. At that rate and under they will achieve a full charge and not heat up. A lithium ion battery incorporates a charge limiting chip during battery assembly. The limiter does a couple things, it senses cell voltages while also limiting the level of charge based upon the charge rate to protect the battery against over charging. Any rate higher than 0.8C reduces the level of charge to minimize heat build up. In practice a li-on battery charged at rates above 0.8C will not achieve a full charge state. Unlike lipo batteries a li-on is more forgiving of charge rates because of the charge limiting chip, but fast charging at high rates means the battery will be charged to a reduced capacity level. It’s possible/probable the charge rate is a little to high for the batteries that are not achieving full capacity.
