Hi all,

I'm brand new to this thread and I have an issue I hope someone can help me with!

Yesterday, I inserted a battery into the drone. Now, it's stuck. When I click the release button and pull on the battery, it comes out about an inch but no further. You can feel that something is binding it inside the battery slide/compartment. I removed the top of the drone but it doesn't get access (easily) to the battery.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Your battery may be going bad with a swelling cell. Once you get out replace

Yes, you need to get that battery out of the drone and dispose of it properly.

Damaged cells in the battery happen from time to time, but should be removed and never used again, Don't even charge them again, a potential FIRE could occur!

Oh, and Don't use any kind of metal tools to remove the battery, could risk damaging the cells further and possibly cause a Fire.

Good Luck!

Thank you both for your quick response!

What's the "easiest" way to remove the battery? Pulling it harder doesn't seem like a good idea (based on both of your responses about damaging the battery).

I removed the top cover (not the board under it though) so I think I'm either going to need to take that off too or go through the bottom.

Any suggestions on getting that battery out?

Its no good so pull it out. I have set of visegrips with heat shrunk ends that use for stuck batteries . I have used a very slight amount of penitrating oil (a few drops on each side ) just be carful

Thanks! I'll give it a try with some mechanical assistance!

One other question, is it possible that I put it in upside-down? I wouldn't think that it would go in that way, but the point where it feels like it's binding had me wondering.

Well, that might explain it then...I put it in upside down.
If you had it fully seated with the battery upside down the battery cage may have cracked and causing the battery to hang.

To access it the top cover needs to be removed, the camera mount removed, the landing gear removed, and then the bottom cover removed. That should allow you to see where the battery is hanging up.

Swollen batteries are also a common cause. If the issue is a swollen battery, it does not matter if the battery is upside down or not. It hangs at the same places for the same reasons. For either cause, or any other, you need to remove the shell as noted by @DoomMeister and probably the ESC Board as well to get clear and at least somewhat "safer" access to this stuff. Be very careful not to puncture the battery.

Assuming you just have the typical issue caused by a swollen battery, the battery may or may not come all the way out after the first catch point is freed. There are at least 5 potential catch points. It is common for more than one to catch. See image below.
