H plus photo from Iceland...camera is fantastic

not going to get that in NM... I've said it before.. I'll say it again...
<SIGH> I wanna be Mickeyboo when I grow up :)

Beautiful photo! If you didn't post-process this then I'm amazed by how well it held the highlights.

I hope you're having a great time in the land of the midnight sun!

There is one thing and perhaps I hope there is a setting for. Each time you change battery it creates another data capture folder and restarts numbers again..so after flying this morning and using three different batteries I had three different folders with identical numbers instead of sequential numbering. Mickey,

I believe the same image management exists in the H520.

I, too, hope there is or will be user configurable options to let us choose how “normal” people like to group their images.

Separate folders for each mission I can live with. Still a pain, but can work around it.

Having duplicate image names is inconceivable!

Imagine the rework, renaming hundreds or thousands of images from a multi-battery mission, before even thinking of trying to create a mosaic let alone anything simple like a slide show!

The options need to be something like:

1) single folder by date - sequential image numbering (master reset by user)

2) single folder by mission - sequential image numbering (master reset by user only)

3) single folder by battery - sequential numbering...

I prefer option 1. Everything in one folder. We have it now in the H480, but only if we remember to leave the last image on the card (do not delete all!). I can easily sort and group by date/time et al.

If someone wants to start fresh (image 0001) every time, it should not be too difficult to click a “reset counter” button in the cam settings. A lot less difficult than renaming hundreds of images before grouping together from multiple folders.

Just one of the head scratchers as in “what were they thinking?”

Jeff

And just think, what happens if we inadvertently copy images from each separate folder into a master folder, not realizing we are overwriting most everything, then format the source card before realizing what we did? Would not be good in ANY situation, let alone after non-repeatable mission.

Did exactly what you mentioned in the last paragraph in the early days of H ownership. It was a bad way to learn about saving the last file when clearing a card.

To repeat the lack of sequential file numbering indicates there may be a lack of coordination between their dev groups, or they didn’t care about what their customers have been telling them for the last two years. Pick the one you prefer.

As has been mentioned by many previously, the H Plus, is still a few firmware updates away from where it needs to be.

Agreed, sir RD, but... that does not excuse anyone from properly coding the basics, especially as critical as this current line of discussion (image management).

Second "especially" is as PatR reiterates ... knowing what the customer needs should not be foreign and a learning experience with every build. Find out once, put in place going forward. Keeping learning and tweaking, as needed, but the basics have got to be there from the get go.

Yes the naming of 001 is an issue. File management is tricky with lots of capture devices. Try using a Zoom recorder for crazy file creation. I’m assuming the new camera still does data dumps every five minutes? I’m someone who empties my card post every flight. I don’t think I like separate folders being made with every power up which is what it sounds like with the battery story. Bad enough the files don’t distinguish between cameras.

As cards size files based upon their formatting, I’m curious if the exFAT format used in Win10 will alter the folder time limit as the format allows options for increasing file sizing.

Good question, Pat. What folder time limit are you thinking of?

While exFAT is not an open spec or open source code, MS seems to have allowed/licensed a lot of companies to use it, possibly with MS assistance.

exFAT is currently the standard for SDXC cards over 32GB according to the SD card association.

Another thought is that 4K and 8K are really pushing the boundaries of what current microSD cards read/write at. I'm guessing in the next few years we'll see UHS II microSD cards becoming more mainstream.

UHS II SD cards are quickly approaching mainstream use in mirrorless cameras. Especially since many mirrorless cameras now support high frame rates for stills and 4K video at up to 120 fps.

I use UHS II SD cards in my Fuji X-T2.

Wondering if the E90/C23 might be upgraded in the future to utilize the speed of UHS II.

It would be a hardware upgrade for the camera and if it happened would most likely be a new version of the camera or a new camera.

This is just my guess as I really don’t know a lot about the internals of the camera.

The only way for my CGO-4 camera to record smooth pans in 4k is by using a UHS-II class card, and that’s at only 16mb, 25-30fps. I would think any camera with equal or higher frame and bit rates would need to use the same to consistently record all the data being thrown at them.

Is 100MB/s write speed comfortably enough (for H+ maxed out)? Prices seem to go up exponentially for anything faster.

The higher we go up the performance ladder the higher the price of each rung. Ask Mickeyboo how card performance changes with capability, and the pricing for high performance cards. If we want to play we’re gonna pay. The price difference between the H-480 and H Plus is demonstrative of that.

What card do Yuneec recommend for the H Plus? I assume they wouldn't recommend a spec which dropped frames at 4k/60fps while panning?
