New Drone, new camera? ION L1 Pro For Yuneec H3

True ...kicking up their U-tube channel up a notch would go a long way. Of course this would require videos longer than the typical 3 minutes with greater frequency. IMO this would garner more reviews from other channels. A variable aperture camera would have been a good move if it could be at a reasonable price point.

Those camera specs tell me little about the camera. Most of those specs could be implemented on the C23.

- does it have a glass lens?
- what is the dynamic range?
- what ND filter threads are required?
- is it the same Sony 1” sensor as the C23? Mavic Pro 2?

At least from the photo of the camera in their PDF, it looks to have a proprietary slide-in filter slot on the side. Can't comment on your other points.

There are several points still keeping me from pulling the trigger on the H+...

1) It's been months since the last FW update... I believe the reason customer issues/suggestions are being ignored, is to potentially moving us along the to the next platform as opposed to actually improving the performance of the current platform.

Example: Pilots have complained about the camera file setup on the H+... only both JPG/DNG capture, with no option for one or the other. There have been those who have bemoaned the lengthy delay in using time-lapse. All H+ pilots have complained just as much about the absolute shite quality of the JPGs.

Soooooo... instead of fixing all of the above issues with a FW upgrade, they announce a new platform that seems to address all these complaints... separate JPG and DNG capture, claimed usability of hyperlapse in JPG mode... and if they did not address the JPG quality issues, that hyperlapse feature is as moot as Real Sense.

2) There is some difficulty in obtaining certain parts... on the current platform, the H+. As pilots on this forum, we hear how important it is to properly take care of our barreries... and it is recommended to use a 3rd party charger.

Sooooooo... anyone tried to order a H+ battery adapter cable for those recommended 3rd party chargers, recently? You can find dozens of retailers that have the adapter cables for the newly discontinued H, but none for the current platform H+. ? Unlike the H, there has never been a separately available gimbal mount kit designated for the H+.

Given the above, what's a pilot waiting on the sidelines supposed to think?

Regarding special filters, what happens if those are not available when the platform is released and common threaded filters can’t be used?

If we again use history as a guide, pretty much all the manufacturer releases of new platforms have had corresponding lack of spares and accessory issues. The H Plus has had a battery and filter supply issue from day 1.

All this speculation seems to be a good marketing tool, especially, if it is stirring conversation like it is on this forum, elsewhere. Yuneec has always lacked in the marketing area. It would be awesome if the eventual release brings out a platform that exceeds expectations. What a shot in the arm that would be!

the lack battery charging adapter cables for the h+ can be attained just they are same ones for the h520. Just the cable is list as h520 battery cable.

IMO, the success of the H3 depends entirely on how good the YLOG is

Why is that? Sounds like you're basing the success/failure of the new platform entirely on video production. What about all the still shooters out there? That's where Leica's strength is anyway.

I'm an Engineer by trade.....the glass is neither half empty nor half full. It's a design flaw. The glass has twice the capacity it actually needs.

ND filter is a part of the co-engineering design.

Making the product incomplete until maximum capacity is achieved and inducing failures.

You may be the engineer but I’m the sorry sod that has to find ways to improve reliability[emoji6]

User error.....overfilling the glass. Send in a bug report.

(c'mon, you've dealt with Engineers before)

ND filter is a part of the co-engineer camera design.

Which begs the question; Will filter sets be widely available at the same time the platform is released?

If not, a camera using unavailable proprietary filters will be an instant “no sale” decision for those considering one. Potential buyers will buy products with readily available filters instead. It’s a buyers market and buyers won’t wait to make their purchases, nor will they buy hoping needed parts and accessories will become available later.

You can’t bake a cake and expect it to sell without the frosting.

ESPECIALLY those already stung by the filter situation with the C23.

Leica is a well regarded company. Given the dearth of information it’s possible that their involvement is limited to the software for processing the images from the sensor and getting the most from the sensor. That’s not a bad thing and might really move the needle for quality of 1” drone cameras. Imagine a drone sported a 1” sensor that could produce images rivaling a Sony RX100.

Only time will tell.

Had confirmation from Yuneec Europe Facebook page that the L1 Ion camera will NOT be compatible with the H520. Pretty disappointed with this. Wonder if they did any market research beforehand!

Any functions or quality E90 can't provide and L1 indeed need?

I feel like this just confirms that the E90/C23 is indeed equal to the L1 with the exception of LOG and WDR/HDR. It again is sad that the hardware in the C23 is capable of 4K HDR LOG but because of software and greed, you guys refuse to unlock that ability with a firmware update.

I hope someone cracks the firmware for the C23 and gives us that ability so we can watch the sale of H3s plummet.
